On this page
Plain text is perfect for logs. But for notes, guides, changelogs, rules or a team handbook, you want structure: headings people can jump between, tables that line up, checklists, warnings that stand out. Choose Markdown when you create a paste and Thpaste turns a few simple symbols into a document that reads like a real page — on any screen.
Write it — with a toolbar that knows Markdown
You don't need to memorise anything. Choose Markdown in the composer and a toolbar appears above the text box: select some words, click B, and **bold** is written for you. The same goes for headings, links, lists, checklists, tables, code blocks, callouts and dividers.

Then flip to Preview to see exactly what readers will get.

The essentials
| You type | You get |
|---|---|
# Title / ## Section | Headings — each gets its own anchor link |
**bold** / *italic* / ~~struck~~ | bold / italic / |
- item or 1. item | Bulleted or numbered lists (indent to nest) |
- [x] done / - [ ] to do | A checklist |
[text](https://…) | A link |
> quote | A quote |
--- | A divider line |
| Three backticks + a language | A highlighted code block |
The extras that make it shine
Thpaste supports a set of extensions on top of standard Markdown — the kind of thing you'd normally need a full website for:
| You type | You get |
|---|---|
==highlight== | highlighted text |
||spoiler|| | A hidden spoiler readers tap to reveal |
!~underline~! | underlined text |
%red%text%% or %#7c3aed%text%% | coloured text |
-> centred <- | A centred line |
[TOC] | A clickable table of contents of every heading |
!!! tip Title (text indented below) | A coloured callout box |
> [!WARNING] | A GitHub-style alert |
✓, ✗ or ~ in a table cell | Green, red or amber marks |
Callout boxes come in six flavours
note, info, tip, success, warning and danger — each with its own colour and icon. Put a title after the type and indent the text underneath by four spaces.
The full list, each with a live example, is in the **Markdown guide** — linked from the composer whenever you're writing Markdown.
What readers see
A Markdown paste opens as a formatted document, with a Formatted / Source switch so anyone can see the original text too. Tables scroll sideways on phones instead of breaking the layout, and readers can translate the whole document into their own language.

Ideas for Markdown pastes
Headings, numbered steps and a [TOC] so readers can jump around.
Checklists for actions, tables for decisions.
Sections per area and a ✓ / ✗ status table.
Callouts for the important bits, spoilers for answers.
Safe by design
Markdown on Thpaste is strict on purpose: any HTML you type shows up as text and can't run or restyle the page, links must be ordinary web or email addresses, and pictures from other sites appear as links instead of loading — so a paste can never track its readers.
FAQ
Do I need to know Markdown?
No — the toolbar writes it for you, and Preview shows the result. If you'd rather not see symbols at all, pick Rich text in the composer instead.
Can I edit a Markdown paste later?
Yes, with a free account. The link stays the same.
Why don't images load?
To protect readers' privacy, pastes never load pictures from other websites. The image becomes a link you can open.
